Delphi Day 21

An early morning time of 7:30 am! We loaded into a BMW van while Panos, our tour guide for the day, drove us straight to the Athens Starbucks, Coffee Island.

Our drive to Delphi was a quick two hours through beautiful Greece.
Our first stop was the Sanctuary of Athena.  Although the sun was high in the sky, we made the jaunt down to offer our blessings to the Greek Godddess.

Then Panos had told us the story that all travelers, when visiting the Oracle must first dip themselves in the spring to cleanse themselves, we walked up the road to the stream. It was only a nice little stream, but we did put our hands in it.

After buying tickets into Delphi, we walked up the road and the first monument was the naval of the world.

Secondly wsa the Temple of Apollo.

It was very hot, and after a quick look at the ampitheater, we headed down to the museum. Cooled off and then rode down to Delphi village to have a lunch overlooking the valley.

As we made our way back to Athinka, we stopped at the oldest monastery in Greece where over 600 monks once lived. Now only four. We did not go in, but the area was just stunning.

On the drive back to Athens,
we stopped at a monument that housed 240 skulls. The nazis had killed a whole village: men, mothers and children. The skulls were housed in a mausoleum.

Then we went to the wonderful town of Lavania. Straight out of a storybook, Panos stopped at the river and we got are feet wet, climbed trees and saw the oldest fort in the valley.

We ended the day with some souvenir shopping.

What an amazing day! Whoo hoo. So happy to have had Panos lead the way. All travelers have tons of memories to keep in their back pocket for the rest of their lives!
